Subject	Why does my Center Console/Shifting area get so hot?

Message	Everytime I take my car out for a drive this section gets really hot. The guy that I bought the car from installed a Stillen Short throw Shifter and put a metal shift knob on it so it gets really hot, almost to the point where it's too hot to hold onto. I can't understand why this specific area gets so hot but I need help as to how to solve this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
